Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, more commonly known as Ash, was
born on 1st November 1973 to Krishnaraj Rai, a marine engineer and
Vrinda Rai, a writer. She has an elder brother named Aditya Rai who
is an engineer in the merchant navy. Born in Mangalore, her family
moved to Mumbai shortly and she received her primary and secondary
education at the Arya Vidya Mandir in Santa Cruz. She later attended
Jai Hind College for one year after which she moved to Ruparel
College in Matunga. Always bright throughout school and college, Rai
aspired to become an architect some day. But these plans were put on
hold when she won the title of Miss India World in 1994. She went on
to win Miss World 1994 and hasn't looked back since then. An
intriguing and sensational actress and model, Aishwarya Rai spent
one year reigning as Miss Word in London after which she returned to
India to pursue her modelling career to the next level! She starred
in her first movie � Mani Ratnam�s Iruvar in 1997. Her second film
and introduction to Bollywood was Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, which also
released in 1997 but failed to do well at the box office. Her third
project, S Sankar�s Jeans was a critical and commercial success and
won her Filmfare�s Best South Actress Award. Aishwarya Rai went on
to star in many Bollywood movies like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Taal,
Josh and the remake of Devdas with Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit,
which brought her a lot of international attention at the Cannes
where it was given a special screening. Her name gained a lot of
recognition overseas when she was chosen as one of TIME magazines
'100 most influential people' in 2004. She has also appeared as a
guest on The Late Show With David Letterman and Oprah�s Women Across
The Globe Segment. She was also signed on as one of the brand
ambassadors of L'Oreal in 2005, which put her in the same league as
Adny McDowell, Eva Longoria and Penelope Cruz! Rai has been a
regular at the Cannes Film Festival since 2002, and was a member of
the Jury at Cannes in the year 2003. In October 2004, a wax figure
of Rai became on display in London's Madame Tussaud's wax museum.

released. He next international project was The Mistress Of Spices
with Dylan McDermott, which was the adaptation of a novel by Chitra
Bannerjee Divakaruni. Aishwarya Rai got married to Abhishek Bachchan,
son of the movie titan Amitabh Bachchan on the 20th of April 2007.
